Rowlett Fire Rescue provides emergency and non-emergency services to an area of 21 square miles, with a residential population of 57,703 and growing. We have 72 firefighters with 23 on shift which staff four strategically located stations on a 24-hour basis. Rowlett Fire Rescue responds to over 5,000 incidents annually.
Rowlett Fire Rescue was created in the early 1950s and purchased the first fire engine in 1955. Before 1979, it was a volunteer department. In the spring of 1979, three paid personnel were hired. Rowlett Fire has now been a fully paid, professional department for over 30 years.
On December 22, 2015, Rowlett Fire Rescue received the award and designation of "Recognized Best Practices Fire Department" from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Program. The program evaluates a Fire Department's compliance with over 117 Best Business Practices for Fire Departments in the State of Texas. These Best Practices were developed by Fire Service professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service to communities. Rowlett becomes the fourth department in the state of Texas to achieve this recognition!
Rowlett Fire Rescue's primary focus is commitment to delivering the highest quality and the most effective fire suppression, emergency medical services, and emergency management to the citizens of Rowlett. Common emergency and non-emergency areas include:
- Building fires or fire alarms
- Vehicle accidents involving injury or extrication
- Injured and sick citizens
- Hazardous materials incidents
- Animal rescue
- Assistance for the disabled and elderly
- Installation of smoke detectors and batteries
- Community education

(ISO) rating of “2.” This has a
positive influence on economic development efforts and could
potentially mean lower fire insurance rates for homeowners and
The ISO is an organization that provides statistical
information on risk, and their ratings have a large impact on fire
departments nationwide. ISO ratings range from 10–1, with “1” as the
highest rating. In determining an ISO rating, almost every aspect of a
city and its fire department is evaluated. Points are given for
everything from the fire department’s training aids to the distance
between fire hydrants.
