TexShare Program
About the TexShare Program:

TexShare is a program of the Texas State Library and the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board. The TexShare Databases include more than 60 different online research products. TexShare databases provide authoritative and commercial-free resources to patrons at Texas public libraries, Texas state government agency libraries, and Texas academic libraries. Some of the resources available through TexShare are encyclopedias, professional and academic journals, and newspaper and magazine articles.

TexShare Card Program:

Rowlett Public Library is one of over 350 public and academic libraries in Texas that participate in the TexShare card program.  Sponsored by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, TexShare lets registered cardholders of participating libraries borrow books and other materials directly from other participating libraries. Many libraries in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex are TexShare participants.

Registered Rowlett Public Library cardholders must obtain a TexShare Card before they are able to check out materials from other TexShare libraries.

Registered borrowers of other libraries must obtain a TexShare card from their home libraries. With a TexShare card from their home library, they may obtain a TexShare Visitor Card from the Rowlett Public Library.

Rowlett Public Library TexShare Visitor Cards issued may only be used to check out materials belonging to the Rowlett Public Library, use Library computers, and obtain remote access to TexShare Databases from the Rowlett Library's Research Database page.

TexShare Visitor Cards may not be used to access non-TexShare databases outside the Library.

Each library establishes its own TexShare borrowing policies. Borrowers are responsible for knowing and following the lending rules of the libraries they use, and for the care and return of materials they borrow.

TexShare Databases Program:

The TexShare Database Program provides a wealth of electronic database resources to over 700 public, academic, and libraries of clinical medicine throughout the state at a significant cost savings. These electronic databases are powerful research tools available 24 hours a day in the homes or offices of registered patrons of participating Texas libraries. They provide full-text articles from journals, newspapers, magazines, and many other sources. Entire books can even be read while on-line. Database topics include homework help for students, health information, business information, biography and genealogy, as well as literature and archival information.

Accessing TexShare Databases:

The TexShare Databases are provided exclusively as a service to library patrons in Texas. Licensing agreements with individual vendors do not permit the databases to be freely available through a non-restricted website. The databases can be used in the PC-Lab. Access is also available from your home or office if you have a Rowlett Public Library Card. To access the databases from home, visit the library and request a TexShare Information Card, which will contain the login and password.

The web address for Rowlett Public Library's TexShare Databases is http://www.libraryoftexas.org/texshare.
