UPDATE -
Over 25 public meetings were held across the City in a two and a half month period. Approximately 520 respondents participated either in-person or took the survey on-line.

Some interesting statistics from these results include that 60% indicated the taxes they paid are Low to About Right. Nearly 74% are willing to increase taxes 1-4 cents to continue operating the City at its current level.

The City of Rowlett has worked very hard to maintain a high level of service and provide its Citizens with the qualities of life we can all be proud of at an affordable price. Like many of you, our budget struggles in this economy are becoming more difficult to manage. The City of Rowlett’s revenue numbers continue to decline due to decreases in property and business taxes. Residents have been fortunate over the last couple of years to not see a decrease in service levels at the City. However, this may not be the case for fiscal year 2013. In an effort to be proactive, the City Manager is asking for YOUR help. We want to continue offering the services YOU utilize most, so now is the time to let your voice be heard!

The City of Rowlett is holding series of survey-style meetings where you will be able to vote on the personal preferences of you and your family. A compilation of the survey results will be published here at the end of the campaign. Those results will be used to help make the difficult decisions that we potentially face as a community going forward.

The Rowlett City Charter requires the City Manager to build and propose an annual budget to the City Council.  We are asking for your input, as the decisions that are made will possibly affect the comforts you have become accustomed to.  Again, in a simple statement:  we need your help!

Tell us what you prefer your tax dollars be spent on. Help us to make well-balanced decisions that not only meet your needs, but continue to give you a sense of pride to be a Rowlett citizen and position us for the future with the upcoming President George Bush Turnpike and DART additions. After all, it is YOUR Community, YOUR Money and truly YOUR Choice!
